It is my great pleasure to cordially invite you to the 9th Nursing Symposium on Cancer Care cum 1st Genomic and Genetic Nursing Forum and pre-symposium workshops to be held on 22-24 May 2024 in Hong Kong.
According to the World Health Organisation, cancer is a leading cause of death globally, accounting for 10 million deaths in 2020. In other words, nearly one in six deaths is due to cancer. The most common causes of cancer death are cancers of lung, colon, rectum, liver, stomach and breast. In 2020, there were approximately 20 million new cancer cases worldwide, and the number is expected to rise by about 47% in two decades. The economic impact of cancer is significant and is increasing.
Foreseeing an escalating prevalence of cancer locally and globally, the Nethersole School of Nursing of the Faculty of Medicine at The Chinese University of Hong Kong organised the 1st Nursing Symposium on Cancer Care in 1999. Since then, the symposium has become an important nursing event contributing substantially to the promotion of quality cancer care in Hong Kong and beyond.
The theme of the symposium this year is ‘From traditional to digital: Transforming cancer care and genomic nursing care through collaboration and innovation’. By pooling the efforts of nursing and healthcare professionals, policy makers, academics and researchers from around the world, this symposium aims to discuss strategies and initiatives for transforming cancer care and genomic nursing care through collaboration and innovation in local and global contexts.
Keynote and plenary speakers invited to the symposium are internationally renowned experts in the healthcare field. Their experiences and insights will stimulate dynamic discussions on innovative strategies and collaborative approaches for the delivery and promotion of cancer care and genomic nursing care. There are also concurrent sessions for delegates to dialogue on a wide range of theme-related topics, discussing the contemporary key issues and practice initiatives in oncology and genomic nursing.
Hong Kong is a vibrant city bringing together the richness of Chinese and western cultures in a spectacular setting. Overseas delegates may also take this opportunity to explore the beauty and attractions of the city, which will surely be an exciting and unforgettable experience.
We look forward to welcoming you at the symposium in 2024.
